A Toast to Springtime Traditions April 08, 2015 01:07
Here at Kusak Cut Glass Works, we love the traditions of springtime, and after 100 years in business we have our own fair share of quirky traditions to go around. One of our favorites is egg-standing around the Spring equinox:
Although the scientific correlation between the equinox and ability to stand eggs on end may be questionable, it is a fun activity that requires concentration and hand-eye coordination. This year, Chuck Kusak's egg remained standing for more than 10 days!
Two other traditions to be enjoyed in early springtime are Easter weekend and the opening day of Major League Baseball.
Easter is such a wonderful time for family gathering and gratitude - a spiritually significant holiday for many faiths, and a wonderful weekend for relaxation and observation. Of course, a few pieces of fine crystal always make a perfect match for your Easter gathering or brunch, and sunny Seattle springtime days make crystal glassware absolutely sparkle:
Also springtime ushers in the opening day of major league baseball and new championship hopes for our beloved Seattle Mariners:
There's nothing like a classic, crystal champagne coupe to toast to the victories of any season. :-)
And, while we make progress on our online store - please know that our in-store selection of beautiful crystal glassware is *much* larger than what is available online. We specialize in premium, custom-made, custom-designed items of the finest crystal and glass - so please contact us if you have any questions or special projects.
In the meantime, like any good 100-year-old we're slowly starting to pick up on the nuances of the Twitterverse and social media - so please follow us there or for our ongoing updates via Facebook.
In the meantime - best wishes, and cheers to Spring!
Busy Week - So How About Some Vintage (Cold War) Lead Cut Crystal? April 02, 2015 00:44
Thanks again to our many dear friends and customers that joined us for our spring heirloom crystal sale.
The sale and its follow-ups have kept us busy at Kusak Cut Glass works - so unfortunately we haven't had much time to invest on Twitter or the blog. However, we thought that we'd pause for a few moments and pass along a couple beautiful shots of some stunning vintage crystal.
These particular wine glasses are hand-blown, hand-cut lead crystal wine glasses. Not for sale, but part of our personal heirloom collection:
If you look closely, the manufacturer's seal can still be seen on one of the glasses - with point-of-manufacture being West Germany.
Check out the details on the hand-cut stem and cuts around the foot of the base.... this is absolutely stunning glass craftsmanship at its best.
There is nothing better than holding a piece like this in your hand, feeling the weight of the heavy glass, and marveling at the sturdy brilliance of the deep cut crystal... Indeed, there's no finer way to enjoy a glass of wine.
And when we say these are part of our heirloom collection - yes - that means that we actually still drink out of these glasses - quite regularly, in fact. After all, fine crystal is meant to be enjoyed - and these beauties are some of our favourites.... :-)
Throwback Thursday: 1922 Kusak Crystal & Glass Sale @ Seattle's Pier 66 March 26, 2015 08:42
With only 3 days left in our Once in 100 Years Crystal and Glass Vintage Sale we thought it would be fun to visit one of the earliest documented sales in our history.
The photo below shows our founder, Anton C. Kusak I selling his hand-engraved crystal and glass at a trade show at Seattle's own Bell Street Pier 66 (now operated as a cruise terminal by Port of Seattle)
At the end of the show a thief stole all of the crystal samples! :S
But, thankfully many years later we happy to still be part of the Seattle community...
And, we are still going strong and our current sale will continue through Saturday, March 28, featuring:
- 1/3 off fine crystal chandeliers
- 15% off all showroom items (stemware, vases, crystal bowls, etc.)
- HUGE selection and discounts for one-of-a-kind and vintage glass pieces in our basement
We hope you enjoyed this brief glimpse into our company's great history - and that we will be able to share our world of fine crystal and glass with you soon!are
Kusak Heirloom Glass Sale - 100+ Years of Wonderful Friends and Amazing Customers March 23, 2015 01:14
We were delighted to see many new and familiar faces at our sale over the weekend: after 100 years working with fine glassware, it is still always a pleasure meeting with our customers to exchange stories and share our passion for beautiful things made of crystal and glass.
We are excited have our first ever Twitter account set up - and learned that one of our own long-time inspirations, and Chanticleer Society founder,'Drinkboy' Robert Hess (@) is a fan of our scotch glasses... wow!
It was also a treat to see our dear friend, and expert Mixologist/Chef Kathy Casey (@ ) drop by our showroom too.... Not only is Kathy a culinary and mixology thought leader and inspiring food blogger, but we admire her civic leadership and involvement in the Seattle community. Thank you Kathy!
What an honor to be recognized by such recipe masters - we are truly flattered! :-)
And aside from meeting with wonderful friends and customers we still have our once-in-a-lifetime sale going on through Saturday, March 28.
Check out these limited edition, hand-cut, stonewheel-engraved crystal cordial glasses available from our basement archives:
All stonewheel engraved patterns are based on premium European-imported glass with patterns hand-cut in the U.S.A. - right here in Seattle in our Rainier Valley workshop by our family of glasscutting artists .
Availability in all styles is limited, so we offer a 3-pack 'variety' set of hand cut crystal cordial glasses for online sales. If you come check out our showroom in-person, you will see that we have a huge variety of patterns, and will be offering amazing sale prices during our sale.
Also, check out this one of a kind, beautiful European imported Star and Eye Vase that we sold over the weekend: (note: no longer available in purple)
Tragically, the European factory that produced these beautiful handmade, hand cut vases went out of business more than a decade ago; so glass like this is only available through vintage or collector sales. Quantities are extremely limited, so please inquire for availability in sizes and colors.
We have many more beautiful treasures that we'd like to share online, but in the meantime, we have our sale and delightful customers to attend to, so please watch for future blog posts about our many rare and one-of-a-kind pieces.
In the meantime, thanks to friends like Kathy, Robert, and all of our dear customers who have already made this first spring sale of our new century a magnificent one...
